23.08.2013. World Championships and more!
It has past over a week since we came home from Berlin, a little tired and a litle depressed needing to leave one behind... Neither did the WC end like we hoped for, but two silver is not too bad either! Jakob and Alur recieved silver medals for T2 and the fivegait combination, also they ended in fifth place in fivegait.
The Championships probarbly was a success for the audience, but the conditions at the stables was not as great. Alur got a skin infection (múkk) on his legs, and it probarbly had some affect on his performance in the finals. Anyway they did great and we hope Alur is good and he keeps blooming with his next owner.
Life goes on after the WC, and Torunn has started to study dataprogramming at the University in Reykjavik. She will have just a few horses in training, but will be teaching more ridingclasses this winter, both weekend courses in Iceland and other countries, and private lessons in Iceland. Jakob will continue training and he will also be teaching some more. There is always something to do at the farm, and the projects are lining up! Here´s a photo of our newest project, the horse trailer has finally got our logo on it :)

26.06.2013. Alur on his way to Berlin!
|
Jakob and Alur qualified in fivegait to join the Icelandic team at the World Campionships for Icelandic Horses 2013! For a long time, the goal has been to compeete with Alur at the WC and now it is happening.
Alur is stable, strong and well trained and Jakob is only looking forward to meet with him in Berlin! He is always growing and has still more to show for. Now we have to find a new good owner for him, when there is no return back home...

25.05.2013. News and photos from the last few weeks!
There has been a lot going on lately and here is finally some news and photos from the last few weeks.

The Reykjavik Championships was held in the beginning of May and Jakob won the T2 and ended 3rd in the fivegait on Alur from Lundum II.
Jakob was also compeeting on Eldur from Köldukinn, he won the fourgait and ended 8th in tölt. Eldur is a growing competitionhorse with great movements, this was his first competition on an outside ovaltrack.

Straumur from Skrúð was shown in Viðidal last week and made a good performance with 8,34 as a total score. Straumur is only five years old, has a very good temperament and even good gaits. His tölt is really clear beated and soft. He will be covering mares in Steinsholt until Fjórðungsmót(start of july) and then he will be in Fellsöxl (HrossVest.is). A really nice WR competition was held in Hafnarfjörður last weekend. We went with 5 horses from our stables and all of them went to the A-finals! Jakob did really well with both Alur and Eldur and won T2(8,54), fivegait(7,90) and tölt(8,56). He was also 3rd in fourgait(7,83) Very nice grades and a very happy Steinsholtsfarmer :) Torunn compeeted on Völuspá from Skúfslæk and ended 6th (6,63). Völuspá is a really nice fourgaiter for sale. Torunn also compeeted on Freisting from Holtsmúla and ended 4th in fivegait.

Birna got a beautiful mare after Skýr the 15th of May and one week later, Íris got a little stallion also after Skýr. The next day two more foals appeared, Ímynd got a really nice mare after Hrimnir from Ósi and Flauta got a tiny stallion 10-12 days early. The tiny foal could not drink by itself the first 12 hours, so we were milking the mare. He is now doing well and drinking by himself.

07.04.2013. Winner weekend!
 Two very nice competition events were held this weekend and Jakob was winning at both events. Here comes a few words and photos from Meistaradeild and Ístölt - The Strongest :)
The final competition of MD was held on Friday and the disiplines was T2 and pacerace through the ridinghall. It was an exciting night with many great horses in both disiiplines. Jakob was riding Funi from Hofi in the pacerace and he did well but not fast enough to be amongst the top horses this time. Alur from Lundum II and Jakob took the track in T2 and were on top in both the preliminary round (score 7,97) and in the finals (score, 8,42).
Team Top Reiter/ Ármót did great and was MD´s by far the winning team of the season! They won with 400 points and got 50 points of 69 in each dicipline. AND if that was not enough, they also got the most votes for the most fun team in MD :) Gummi, the team leader, won the individual competition this time and we gratulate him again for his great sucsess!
 Ístölt - The Strongest (an event helping to collect money for the representing team of Iceland), was held in Laugardal skatinghall. Jakob was riding Eldur from Köldukinn, a son of Eldjárn from Tjaldhólum, owned by Þórður Bragasson and Þórsteinn Hjaltisted.
After the preliminaries Jakob and Viðar was even in 2nd to 3rd place with the score of 8,23, but in the Steinsholtsfarmer had everything under control under the finals and was a sure winner. Eldur was really good looking on the ice and ended with the score of 8,83 with 9 for slow tempo tölt! He is getting better and better, last year he was in 9th place at this competition.
Þórður Bragasson, Eldurs owner was so happy with the results that he gave the representing team of Iceland half a million icelandic kroner! :)

19.03.2013. Competition after competitions!
There has been a lot of competitions lately! On saturday we were all competing in Borgarnes in the KB-tournament. Jakob and Torunn were fighting to win the B-finals, but Jakob won and got even higher in the A-finals, - 2nd place! He was riding a young promising töltmare, Kilja from Grindavík, turnig 6 years old this year. Then we went straight south to Reykjavík where Torunn was competing on ice. She did not get to the finals this time, but it was fun to ride there again. Jakob is always in the Champions League and you can see photos from fivegait and tölt here below. In fivegait he got 6,57 on the horse Ægir from Efri-Hrepp. Ægir is turning 6 this year and Jakob got to borrow him from his trainer Ingibergur Jónsson from Akranes. In the tölt, Jakob was riding Eldur from Köldukinn and put on a good show in the preliminaries, getting a score of 7,67 and went straight to the A-finals. They got 7,78 in the finals, ending in 8th place.

19.02.2013. Gæðingadressage and beautiful horse photos
 Jakob was competing on Eldur from Köldukinn on Thursday at MD gæðingadressage. He came in 7th-8th place with the score of 7,11. All in his team got points this time, Guðmundur on 2nd place and Þorvaldur on 4th, so the TopReiter/Ármót-team is now in up in second place in the teams tournament so far.

03.02.2013. MD Champions League has started!
MD Champions league for icelandic horses started on Thursday with fourgait. Jakob was competing on Asi from Lundum II. They were first to start off the competition, but made a good program and got the score of 7,30. This made a place in the finals, and they ended in 6th place. Jakob is competing for the team Top Reiter/Ármót and they are now in 3rd place after this first competition.

31.12.2012. Last day of 2012 :)
A lot has happened in 2012 and many good memories have been made. We were looking at our newsarticles through the year and noticed one article missing, - of our foals of course! So now we want to greet the "old" year with some photos and short words of our young "expectations" , the foals born in Steinsholt 2012.
First to join us was the stallion Sesar from Steinsholti after Írisi from Vestri-Leirárgörðum and Skýr from Skálakoti. Good looking and shows all gaits.
Next came a mare out of Birna from Ketilsstöðum and after Skýr from Skálakoti. Mature and sweet mare, Sif from Steinsholti.
Þoka from Spágilsstöðum gave birth to this "eye-candy", also a mare after Skýr from Skálakot.
Last was Bót from Akranesi to give birth to another mare, Embla from Steinsholti, a beautiful foal after Hrókur from Efsta-Dal.
We also got a foal after Sandra from Skrúð and Skýr, a very beautiful mare witch we unfortunatly have no photos of.
We finish with our best wishes for a great new year dear friends, family, colleagues and customers. Thank you for 2012.

Last night Jakob recieved the award for best sportsrider of the year 2012! It is a great honour to recieve this award and also gives inspiration for the coming year. We want to thank everyone for a great evening at "uppskeruhátið"(horse gala) and for all the nice greetings.

02.11.2012. Good results in 2012
It was really nice to see Jakobs name in nominations for both sportsrider of the year, breedingshow rider of the year and rider of the year 2012. It is an honour to be nominated and a lot of work lies behind this acchievement.
We wanted to put out some photos of this year that has not been shown on this site earlier.
Starting with Funi from Hofi that has done well in pace competitions this year. Here he was 4th in the 150 meters at the Icelandic championships.
Glitnir from Eikarbrekku made a great appearance at Landsmót and got 8,55 for riding abilities. His confirmations is also high and his total score is 8,48.
Torunn was compeeting for the first time at LM in A-flokk and Jakob is riding Ófelía from Hóltsmúla in B-flokk at LM.

02.11.2012. The great mare Árborg from Miðey
We have for a long time now, been thinking about writing a few words about Árborg. She left Iceland this autumn and is now in Denamark with her new owner. The wind is so bad today, that it is not possible to work with the horses outside or inside(the roof is coming off), so we have a little time to update our website and this is for "Bogga".
 Árborg came to Jakob for training in january 2010 and was here for more than 2 1/2 years. The mare changed a lot in short time and developed to be a great competitionhorse. She quickly became one of Jakob´s favourites and they gained a great connection, she has a "worried mind" but always seeked to Jakob for safety and trusted him.
In 2010, they won the tölt competition at Fákaflug in Skagafjörður, a tölt competition in Selfoss and became number 2. in tölt at the Icelandic championships. After this, the success continued, and they have won or been in the top finals at the biggest competitions in the country. Some to be mentioned are, winning the gæðingadressage in MD 2011, B-flokk gæðinga at masterchampionships Andvari 2011, and third place in tölt in both Landsmót and Íslandsmót 2012. Their highest score in tölt has been 8,20 in preliminary round and 8,50 in the finals.
In 2011 it was decided to try and get her breeding score higher and was shown to a good 1st price, 8,19 in total. Her riding abilities went to 8,39 with 9,5 for tölt, spirit and slow tölt. 9 for trot and form under rider, not bad for fourgaiter.
Árborg is a special mare and will be missed, but we want to wish her new owners best of luck and congratulations with this great "gæðingur".

12.09.2012. Three new breedingmares!
This summer, three of our young mares got high breeding scores and we decided to use them all in our breeding; Plóma from Skrúð, Gersemi from Syðri-Gegnishólum and Flauta from Skúfslæk. As they are all unique in their own way, they still have a lot in common: They are all fivegaited with good and even gaits. Good tölt (8.5), good temper and delivers great results in an early age. You can find more information and photos af them on our "breeding" page :) All of them went to the genious Skýr from Skálakot (on the photo below).

11.08.2012. Straumur from Skrúð is serving mares in Steinsholt!
Straumur from Skrúð is now the 2nd highest judged 4 year old stallion this year! He got 8.41 for riding abilities, 8.21 for conformation and the total score of 8.33. Straumur has a really good bloodline with first price parents. His mother, Sandra from Skrúð, is after Oddur from Selfossi and has 3 first price offsprings. His father, Glotti from Sveinatungu, is a highly judged horse after Gustur from Hóli.
Straumur has a good temperament and was easy to start riding. All of his gaits are good, and he has a great softness in his body.
Straumur will be serving mares in Steinsholt and the price is 70 000,-

05.04.12. Happy Easter!
We wish you all a happy easter! Here are some photos and words about the last competitions and horseshows we have participated in.
We´ll start with the icetölt competition "Icecold ladies". It was held in the middle of Reykjavik in a skating hall. Torunn was competing on a daughter of Orri, Ófelía from Holtsmúla, owned by Hermann Ólafsson. After the preliminary round they were second into the A-finals with the score of 7.40, but ended in third place after the finals. Hulda Gústafsdóttir won and Torunn got the price for "best looking pair" and good riding. The theme was neck-ornament :)
The pace competitions in Meistaradeild (Champions League) was held at Ármót the 24th of march. Jakob went with a son of Gustur from Hóli, Funi from Hofi in the 150m. Funi is owned by Finnur Ingólfsson. It went pretty good, but they did not get the time (technical problems) on what was probarbly the best pace by Funi, but they ended 7th.
Bergur Jónsson borrowed Jakob a good mare for the pace test, Minning from Ketilsstöðum, a mare with 9,5 for pace in breeding evaluation. They did good and ended also here in 7th place. After this competition, Jakob and Artemisia was on top in the overall score of the whole competition.
The same day as the pacecompetitions, there was a show in the ridinghall in Borgarnes. We went home after the pace, changed horses on the trailer and went straight to Borgarnes. Torunn participated in a parade with female trainers of west Iceland on a gelding called Laufi from Bakka, owned by Sólrún Ingvadóttir. Jakob showed the stallion Asi from Lundum II, a very good fourgaiter owned by Sigbjörn Björnsson. The father of Asi is Bjarmi from Lundum II and the mother is the great Auðna from Höfða. Jakob also showed the stallion Abel from Eskiholti, a son of Klettur from Hvammi, owned by Birna Baldursdóttir. Also, on behalf of FT (trainers assosiation) he put on a show with the great mare Árborg from Miðey.
On Friday the 30th of march was the last cometition of the champions league, fivegait. Jakob borrowed a good horse from Reynir Örn Pálmasson, Greifi from Holtsmúla. Unfortunatly, he was 11th, and lost his chance to win the league, but he still got second place!
"Icetölt of the best" was held last weekend and Jakob competed on a son of Eldjárn from Tjaldhólum, Eldur from Köldukinn. Eldur is a six year old stallion owned by Þórður Bragason. He danced around on the ice and ended in 9th place. Also another dancing horse, Abel from Eskiholti, was ridden in the stallionshow.

11.03.12. Photos of Borba-lessons and Meistaradeild
We got ridinglessons with the great Julio Borba last weekend. As always it was really motivating!
Last Thursday Jakob competed in Meistaradeild and did a really nice preliminary round with Alur from Lundum, allthough Alur was a little afraid of the audience, they had the highest score into the A-finals with the score 8,07. The finals also went very well but Sara and Diva got a higher score, so they ended 2nd. Funi from Hofi and Jakob did well in the pace through the ridinghall, but there were so many good pacehorses that he ended 12th. Incredible pace in this competition although the weather was terrible!

26.02.12. Meistaradeildinni og KB Mótaröðinni
Last thursday Jakob and Árborg from Miðey got fourth place in the MD-Champions League. Many strong horses were in the A-finals, like Tónn frá Melkot and Diva from Álfhólum. Jakob is now sencond in the league in the individual competition. Next he will compete on the former Icelandic Champion, Alur from Lundum II, in T2 and Funi from Hofi in the pace through the ridinghall.
 
The KB League in Borgarfjörd was yesterday, there was also competed in tölt. Our employee, Madou, competed on Kröggur from Kröggólfsstöðum and it was the horse´s first competition. Kröggur had some nice moments and it was good training for them. Torunn was competing on Ófelía from Holtsmúla and got 6,40 in the preliminary round witch was enough for the fith place in to the finals. They got a little better and ended fourth in the finals with the score of 6,75. Jakob had enough of loosing for the girls, but he was second after Kolbrún Grétarsdóttir after the preliminaries. Jakob was competing on Eldur from Köldukinn, son of Eldjárn from Tjaldhólum, and they gave all and won the finals with the score of 7,75. We unfortunatly have no photos of Jakob and Eldur.

12.02.12. Third in the champions league
Jakob was third in both the fourgait on Asi and the gæðingadressage on Árborg. He is also third in the individual placement in the leauge. Hopefully everything goes well ahead and he can climb even higher in the next disiplines :)
Our new stables are almost finished and we have started to take in some horses. Photos will come soon!

22.01.12: So much to do!
Happy new year dear friends, family and business associates. The first part of 2012 has gone by so fast! We have a lot of things happening: A full stable of great horses in training, a new stable under contruction and planning to build an apartment for our workers when the stables are done, hopefully next week.
To get some inspiration in our job, we went to get lessons with the genious Julio Borba. The lessons were held at Syðri-Gegnishólar where Olil and Bergur has built up a very nice facility.
Meistaradeild VÍS (champions league) is starting next thursday with fourgait and Jakob will participate with Asi from Lundum II. Asi was 6th in the same diciplin last summer at the Icelandic championships.
The snow and the bad weather this winter has given us some extra workinghours... But in attempt to find something posetive about this winter I´ll put out a photo of a beautiful day here in Steinsholt, just after newyears :)

28.11.11. Auðurs offsprings has a promising start
The winter has arrived and it´s so much fun to ride in the new snow! We now have two offsprings of Auður from Lundum II, both really promising. One of them is a gelding that Jakob owns, Njörður from Steinsholti. He was broken in last fall for a month, was taken in for more training a coupple of months ago. He is a big and beautiful horse with high movements.
We also have a mare after Auður who has now been broken in and trainined for two months. She has really good movements and gaits. Þórður Bragasson owns this nice mare.

06.11.11. Promising stallion
 Here you can see Straumur from Skrúð, a stallion born ´08, owned by Jakob. Straumur is after Glotti from Sveinatungu and Sandra from Skrúð, she is also the mother of Stikill from Skrúð, - a good 1st price stallion we sold to Germany.
Straumur has been in training for 6 weeks now, and is very promising. He will get some time off now until newyears and it will be interesting to see how he evolves this winter.

 25.10.11. Breaking in youngsters and sales
Many promising youngsters are doing well here theese days. I wanted to put out a few photo´s of our workers, Madou and Guðmundur, on the first ridingtrips.
We also have more trained horses in the stables. One of them, a nice mare after Dynur from Hvammi, is now for sale. So check out our salespage to see video and more info.
Anyone remember this one? She broke her leg as a foal and now she has been broken in! The vet here,Susi, put the cast on her as a foal and now the horse´s name is also Susi :)

27.09.11. Update :)
It is finally time to update our homepage! AND we will try to keep it up.. Like many might know, Torunn was in Norway last winter, running a training station. It was a good and learningful experience, but Torunn is back on Iceland and will take horses in training in Steinsholt this winter.
Last weekend was the famous Laufskálaréttir held in Skagafjorður. We went north with Berglind and Daníel Ingi and had a lot of fun! We got to stay at Hofsstaðaseli, where we were very well taken care of as usual :) Already looking forward until next time!

14.09.10: Jakob Icelandic Champion in T2 and got the silver in T1!
Jakob and Alur from Lundum II became Icelandic Champions in T2 and won with good margins! He ended up with the score of 8,83 in the finals, secure and beutiful.
Jakob competed on Árborgu from Miðey in the the T1 og achieved great success with 2.-3. place, only one point away from the winners Viðar and Tumi.

08.08.10: Fákaflug gæðingacompetition and breeding shows :)
 For almost two weeks ago we went up north to participate in a breeding show and the Fákaflug gæðingacompetition. We brought with us 4 stallions, 3 mares and 3 geldings.
The breeding show went pretty good for Jakob. He showed Vörður from Árbæ and got really good results! Conformation 8,28, riding abilities 8, 60 witch makes 8,48 in tatal score. Vörður has become a strong and well trained stallion and he also competed in the A-flokk. He went straight to the A-finals and came in third with 8,65 in a really strong final with great horses.
Then Alur frá Lundum II, son of Kolfinnur and Auðna, did also good in the breeding show. He got for conformation 8,35 and 8,19 for riding abilities. That makes a total score of 8,25. He is a great looking horse and deserved even higher marks...
 Jakob showed the four gaited mare Keflavík from Feti and got good numbers, 9 for neck, trot, form under rider and slow tempo tölt. She got the total score of 8,11.
Another mare who was shown in Skagafjörður is Fura from Holtsmúla I. She got the total score of 7,97 and it was decided to try again to get her in first price. She got first price at a new show in Mið-Fossum the week after.
Our stallion Stikill from Skrúð was also shown up north and got 8,21. He was also shown at Mið-Fossum the next week and got one mark higher, 8,22 total score. He will now be here in Steinsholt with his mares.
Torunn showed one stallion in Skagafjörður, Hlynur frá Litlu-Tungu 2. He is a five year old 4-gaiter, son of Álfasteinn from Selfossi. He got 7,95 and was also shown again at Mið-Fossum were he got better marks. 8,08 for conformation, 8,12 for riding abilities, total score of 8,10. 9 for legs, tölt and willingness.
 We will end on Jakobs two victories on Fákaflug. He won the 150m pacerace on the time 13,15 sec and 13,65 sec! Sorry to say it was taken by hand wathces and is not a leagal time, but still he was really fast! Jakob had a smile up to his ears : D
Also a great win, was the tölt were he competed on Árborg from Miðey and got the score of 7,78 in the finals. Talented mare in growth!

26.07.10: Hey and horsetrip!
 The sun has really been shining for us this summer, We finished plasting the hey about a week ago, and now we have 310 heyballs ready for next winter. Straight after this, we travelled with the horses up to Stóra-Kroppur(Reykholtsdal) and back. It was a five day ride, and we had wonderful weather all the way. The photo´s are taken under the mountain Hafnarfjall.
Here is a photo of our last born foal this year, his mother is Birna from Ketilsstöðum and the father is Stikill from Skrúð. Birna is now expecting with Abel from Eskiholti, promising son of Klettur.
Other stallions we have used this summer is: Auður from Lundum II, Asi from Lundum II and Eldjárn from Tjaldhólum.

22.06.10: Slowly recovering
When the horses were sick, Torunn went to Norway to teach and to visit her family. Has come back to Iceland now, and can see a little recovery among the horses in Steinsholt.
Not much has happened since the last update, but we got our last foal of the year. It was another stallion, his parents are Stikill from Skrúð and Birna from Ketilsstöðum. Photos will come later.
Jakob also showed 3 horses on the breeding show on Mið-Fossum two weeks ago. The best riding ability test of the three, had the fourgaited mare, Dama from Neðra-Skarði. Her father is Gustur from Hóli and she got 7,90 for riding abilities, 9,0 form under rider.

31.05.10: Sunshine and sick horses.
Though it has been great weather lately it has been impossible to train the horses because of the cough that´s everywhere on Iceland right now. But still there are some news from Stensholti. More foals are born, a few horses was shown in Viðidal and Sörlastöðum, also there is beeing done some research here on the cough and we are trying out medisin. Hopefully, something posetive will come out of this! We can´t see any sign of starting to train again anytime soon.
But lets start on the breeding show in Viðidal. Only two stallions were shown by Jakob. A six year old son of Gustur from Hóli, Þremill from Vöðlum, and a five year old son og Tigull from Gýgjarhóli, Váli from Eystra-Súlunesi I. They are both 1st. price stallions, but Váli got a higher score than last year. He got 8,44 for comfirmation and 8,19 for riding abilities, total score of 8,29. Pictures below (gallop 9,0 - tölt 8,5)
The next breeding show was in Sörlastöðum, Hafnarfirði. 3 mares were shown by Jakob. The five year old daughter of Orri from Þúfu, Orka from Einhamri 2 got the high score of 8,20 for conformation and 8,50 for riding abilities! She got all together eight of the mark 9,0. Orka was the first horse that got the cough, but had a fast recovery. Here are pictures of this powerful mare.
Also shown in Hafnarfirði was Snjóka from Oddsstöðum, six year old daughter of Gustur from Hóli and Eskja from Bræðratungu, five year old daughter of Dalvar from Auðsholtshjáleiga. Both of them came to us shortly before the breeding show and has not got sick yet. Both promising fivegaited mares, Snjóka with the totalscore of 7,87 and Eskja with 7,95.  Our first foal 2010, born May 1st. son of Asi from Lundum II has gotten the name Hugur from Steinsholti (photo to the right).
21st of May another stallion was born, Ívar from Steinsholti. Ívar (photo down to the left) is the son of Íris from Vestri-Leirárgörðum and Kappi from Kommu.
And then yesterday, 30th og May, Þoka from Spágilsstöðum got her first foal (photo down to the right), a litle daughter of Asi.

15.05.10: Stikill from Skrúð!
 Stikill will be available for mares here in Steinsholt at least until Landsmót. Like some people know, he got 10 for his top line(back) only 4 years old! Powerful engine on him! He got a great score for comformation (8,23) and riding abilities (8,15) at such a young age. He has been developing very well this winter, but the cough/flu has prevented him to get a new breeding judge this year so far.
Stikill is a fivegaiter with a good temper and is easy to handle. His parents are Sólon from Skáney and Sandra from Skrúð, both higly judged first price fivegaiters.

10.05.10: Posetive and negative!
I´m going to start on the posetive news. Our first foal was born 1st of May. It is a stallion, son of Hugmynd from Steinsholti (for sale) and Asi from Lundum II. He is red with a star, beautiful and calm nerves!
The name is still undecided, any ideas?
Last week Jakob went north to Blöndous on a breeding show. He showed three mares, one daughter of Gustur from Hóli got 7, 75 (the grey mare on the picture below), but the other two got first price! Here´s a few pictures of the horses in action.
Daughter of Suðri, Gæfa (the brown mare above), got total score of 8,06. She is a good fvegaited mare wich have also been on our salespage.
Þrenna (to the left) got 9,0 for tölt, a beautiful fourgaited daughter og Þristur from Feti. She got the total score og 8,07.
Negative news: Many of the horses in Steinsholti has gotten the contagious flu that is all over the country now...
To end with a posetive note, I´ll put in a picture of the pacehorse that did a good job in the last competition of MDVÍS. Funi and Jakob got points in both 150 m pace and gæðingapace(stilpass). Jakob is now 4th in the individual competition, and only one competitionday left... whenever that will be, it´s all been postponed because of the flu.

28.03.10: Photos from Stjörnutölt
We went up north to Akureyri last weekend and Jakob participated in the Stjörnutölt on ice. He got second place in the tölt-competition on Árborg from Miđey and won the stallions class on Alur from Lundum II. Asi from Lundum II also came with and was presented on the ice as he is going to be in this area this summer. Here is a few photos from the event:

14.03.10: Spring in the air :)
The spring is in the air here in Steinsholt theese days, the weather is warmer and the horses are getting better and better. Though it is raining, we are having fun! We always have loads to do, and last weekend Jakob went to Svínavatn and competed on ice. He won both A-flokk and tölt! He won A-flokk on Vörđur from Árbć and tölt on the mare Árborg from Miđey.
The VIS master leage was held this thursday and this time it was "gćđingadressage". Jakob competed on Blćr from Hesti and got third place. He also is in third place in the leage with 22 points, only 2 points behind Viđar Ingólfsson who is in first place. Next time it´s fivegait, and Jakob will compete on Vörđur again.
Last night Torunn and Alur from Lundum II competed on ice in the iceskatinghall in Reykjavík. Torunn was last in to the B-finals, but did good in the finals and got 7th place. Jakob went along as a helper this time :)

03.03.10: Competition, competition and some more competitions!
 Well, I said I would write something about the teamcompetition in Borgarnes if it went well! We were 3 from Steinsholt who took part, Torunn, Jakob and Guđmundur (Hólar student in practice here) but Torunn crushed the boys and was the only one who made it to the finals :)

Then we come to the Master Leage VÍS... first it was postponed from Thursday until Saturday because of bad weather. So on Saturday we showed up at Ingólfshvol where the competition is held, only to be told the competition was once again cancelled! Third time´s a charm, and the Master Leage could finally be held on Sunday. A great T2 competition with many strong horses! Jakob was riding Alur from Lundum II and came in second after the qualifications, only Viđar and Tumi was better. Then Ţórdís won the B-finals and climbed her way up to second place. That means Jakob came in third, wich is good on a 5 year old horse. This was Alurs first T2 competition.
I suppose we drive north next weekend to compete on Svínavatn, Ice-landsmót... if the waether is good enough that is!

12.02.10: The competitionseason has started
 The fourgait in Meistaradeild VÍS was held yesterday. Jakob and Goggur came in 11th place and just didn´t make it to the finals. They got the grade 6.80 wich is good for Goggurs first competition.
We have also signed up for a teamcompetition in different diciplines in Borgarnes, and the first dicipline is tomorrow (fourgait). Maybe we will write some about it here if it goes well ;)

10.02.10: Lovely winter weather!
It´s been ecceptionally good winter weather theese days, the horses are good and we´re hoping for the weather to last towards summer...
 Like many might know, the VÍS Championships have started, and it started with "smali" (a track with different challenges to get throug on as best time possible). Jakob competed on Blćr from Akranesi and got 5th place. This is the third time he has competed in smali, but the first time in the finals!
The four gait is tomorrow and Jakob will compete on the gelding Goggur from Skáney. His father is Sólon from Skáney, and this will be his first competition and we hope he will score well.

01.01.10: A new year begins!
The year of 2010 starts with excitement to train all the promising horses here in Steinsholt, and with Landsmót up ahead we certainly have lots to do!

18.12.09: Gígur from Hítarnesi
 Tuesday was a sad day when Gigur had to be put down.
Gigur was an amazing tölter on his way up and there were lots of expectations and excitement for his future. Gígur also had a big personality and was positive and fun to train. He had an ecceptional competiition-season only five years old. Jakob competed on him five times this spring/summer, and in the kvalifications he got four times over 7.00. He got 7,27 for a great show in the kvalifications in Hvammstanga and won with an even better show wich ended in 8.11 in the finals.
It was a pleasure to get to know a horse like that, he will truly be missed.

22.11.09: Sales and breaking in youngsters!
 The daughter of Ţóroddur, Ţóra from Steinsholt is now sold and on her way to Denmark. She wil go to the same place as Hćringur and we now she will have a good home there :) The plan is to show her for new breedingnumbers next spring. Good luck with her Annette and Henning!
We still have a couple of good mares left on our sale´s site, take a look if you are looking for a breedingmare or a competitionhorse.
In theese days we are closing our chapter of breaking in yougsters for this fall. It has gone well and many promising horses, so some of them will get to come back after a short break. And now when the youngsters are going home, other more trained horses are coming in to take their place, worth mentioning is the great stallion from Lundum II, Auđur has joined us in the stables.

01.11.09: The new oval- and pacetrack!
This fall has been productive here in Steinsholt and there has been made both an ovaltrack (250 m) and a pacetrack (230m). Here you can see pictures, the first is our view from the stables down to the ovaltrack...

21.09.09: We took a good vacation after the last breeding show
Then it is about time to update our page! We went straight on vacation to Norway after the last breeding show in Hella. Jakob has now come home to Iceland, but Torunn wil stay and teach in Norway until the end of October.
 In the second and last week of the breeding show in Hella, we brought 8 mares again, and the best one got 8.30 for riding abilities! Her name is Eylíf from Halakot (on the photo), the father is Ţóróddur from Ţóródsstöđum and the mother is Líf from Halakot. Eylíf is 5 years old, fivegaited and got 9 for willingness and 8,5 for tölt and trot. Another mare who got first price is the mare Brimkló from Stóra-Ás. She got 8,5 for tölt, gallop, willingness, form and slow tempo tölt.
When Jakob got home from Norway, the oval track was nearly finnished. Just have to build a fence around it. We'd like to thank Björn Viđar Ellertsson and his company for great work!

21.09.09: Hćringur sold to Denmark!
 Hćringur from Litla-Kambi has been sold and is going on the next plane to Denmark (3. Oct.). He is a the son of Gustur from Hóli and has gotten 9 for proportions, tölt, trot, gallop, form and slow tempo tölt. We wish the new owner good luck and success with him in the future :)

23.08.09: Breedingshows and sports competition :)
 The first week of breeding shows in Hella is over and Jakob showed 8 mares. It went pretty well, the mares with the highest scores are; the four gaited mare Sóldís from Leiđólfsstöđum (c:8.01 r:8.31 t:8.19) and Ósk from Miđ-fossum (c:7.72 r:8.24 t:8.03).
Sóldís is the daughter of Hugi from Hafsteinsstöđum and as you can see on the picture, she has very high movements!
Sóldís got 9 for tölt, trot, willingness and form under rider!
Ósk is the daughter of Orri from Ţúfu and Snekkja from Bakka, 5 year old fivegaited mare. She got 8.5 for pace, willingness and form under rider. Here you can see a picture of 8.5 pace :)
 This weekend there was a competition in Akranes, not far from Steinsholt. Jakob competed in fivegait on Vörđur from Árbć and they won this dicipline for the second year in a row. Vörđur is always getting better and better and it will be fun to watch what he does next year. This was the last competition for him this year.

 16.08.09: Making of the ovaltrack is now in progress!
We are starting to make an ovaltrack here in Steinsholt. It is located just beside our road up to the farm. Our friend, Björn Viđar Ellertsson is making the track for us, and he came with a big machine on thursday, and started to dig.

09.08.09: Fun sport competition in Hvamstangi!
 The horse-assosiation Ţytur held a sport competition this weekend and we decided to go north and participate. We took 4 horses with us: Jakob with Gigur in tölt, Vörđur in fivegait and Felling in 100m and PP2. Torunn brought an older but unexperienced horse, Blćr from Akranes, and tried the 100m pace. Unfourtunetly he only wanted to pace for 80 meters... It went better for Jakob and Felling, they came in tird place with the time, 7.99.
It also went really well in tölt and fivegait, Jakob won both finals!
Gigur was in great shape and scored up to 9 for changing speed and fast tempo tölt! Very promising tölthorse on his way up. He got the total of 8.11.
The competition ended with A-finals in fivegait and Vörđur was very good and even in all gaits, got the total score of 7.29. This picture is taken at Fjórđungsmót ´09 this summer.

23.07.09: Icelandic championships and making hey!
Last week was the Icelandic  championships held in Akureyri and we of course went up the the cold north!
Jakob compeeted on Hćringur in tölt and fourgait, on Vörđur in fivegait and Felling in the 100m, 150m and the style pace. The horses were good, Vörđur went straight to the A-finals along with 8 others! He ended in 5th place. Felling had the best time in the style pace, 8.20 sek. She had one bad "slowing down" were she got 0, but ended up in 8th place!

Then we went straight home for more work and Jakob sat in the traktor for two long days and ended up with 217 white heyballs. Torun won the bet on how many there would be :) We´d also like to thank Helgi Már and Stebbi in Skipanes for the help!
