Trapped in the Closet Season 3 Episode 1 | Trapped in the Closet Season 3 Premiere

At last night’s Trapped in the Closet New York City premiere, R. Kelly announced that he would like to turn the hit R&B opera into a musical, reports Vulture.

I’m oddly excited about this. Just last week I found myself scouring YouTube to find the hidden gems of R. Kelly’s first chapters. I forgot how insanely funny this story is, and I think it could easily be translated for the stage. R. Kelly seems to be in on the joke as well and is having a lot of fun twisiting his old story lines. At the premiere, he referred to himself as an “alien” in character as Sylvester and said that his super power of choice would be to “heal the world.”

R. Kelly also apologized for making Trapped in the Closet fans wait five years for new material. There are already another 85 chapters on the way, and a musical version should really get fans excited. This Thanksgiving, R. Kelly is giving fans one more thing to be thankful for: 20 more chapters of "Trapped in the Closet."

The epic 22-part song series/soap opera/cultural phenom was originally released in chapters by Kelly between the years of 2005 and 2007. Now, Kelly has announced in an interview with Time that he has filmed 20 more chapters of "Trapped," to be released the day after Thanksgiving.

The series may not end at 42 chapters. As Kelly says in the interview, "'Trapped in the Closet' is forever."
