Cotonhunden is a familiy breeding kennel in Denmark. We breed Coton De Tulears with DKK/FCI pedigrees.
The kennel consists of Bettina and Bjarke and our two cotons Becca and Amigo.
We became familiar with the breed because we have allergy in the family and we had heard of a dog which allergic persons could tolerate. Besides we totally fell in love with the breed - the beautiful fluffy coat, the loving expression and their playful character.
In 2008 we got our first Coton - Jegums Princess Becca. She was a dream come true :-) We learned more about the breed and we quickly got interested in showing Becca. We went to a couple of shows and then we were hooked :-)
As time passed and we learned more about the breed, the standard and health we got interested in breeding. This lead to our first litter in March 2011. Unfortunately the birth didn't go well for Becca and she needed a lot of help from the vet. We ended up with one white little baby boy :)
We had never planned to keep this little boy but sometimes you just have to follow your heart and we decided to keep him when he was 3 weeks old. We are very happy that we kept him and he brings much joy to both us and Becca. He has also proven himself as a showdog in very early age as a baby in the showring :-)
In our breeding health is very important for us. We get our dogs testet for
- Eye examination for PRA (eye disease)
- Cataract (eye disease)
- Patella (loose knee caps)
- CMR (eye disease) – (DNA test in USA)
Becca and Amigo hasn't been tested for CMR yet but we know that parents are clear - but we are planning to get them both tested. Amigo is too young to get tested for the other diseases but as soon as he turns 1 year old he will be tested.
The standard of the Coton is also very improtant to us and we try to make the best combinations to keep the Coton looking like a Coton. Also the character and temper of the dogs are very important to us as we think the Coton should be a happy and playful dog, never agressive.
