History

The city was
originally founded by the Cypriot prince Korikos, which also named the town after himself. The first time one in the history books come across the name Korikos was in tales from 197 BC, when the city was conquered by the Syrian King Antioch III.

Eventually, he decides to build himself a castle of white stone on a small island, near the royal castle, and he keeps the princess locked up, so she's safe. The princess does not know of the prophecy and languish in grief. One day the king sends his daughter a basket full of wine grapes unaware that a snake resting in the cool fruit basket. When the princess opens the basket the snake bites her and she dies, despite the king's attempts to prevent it.
