Færgekroen & Hotel Syd - Hadsund Syd

History

“Færgekroen” in Hadsund was built in 1823 by inn keeper and ferry man Peder Nielsen from Rostrup.

Even then there was busy traffic both on the road and in the water. Especially when Hadsund market started 1st Mai 1836, the inn keeper got very busy. His son, Peder Nielsen, took over the inn and rebuilt it in 1856. Hadsund “Færgekro” became the natural rallying ground for the local population and travellers. In 1900 one could see a big sign at the gable, informing everybody about stable places for 50 horses, so that travellers going north could get their horses stabled. To the inn belonged agriculture, a grocery store and a bakery.

The inn burned in 1969, but was immediately rebuilt.

The present inn keeper, Jens Nørgaard Jakobsen, took over the inn in 1972 after his father, and he completed a comprehensive restoration and modernization in the winter of 1976-77. In 2000 this was done once again and the panorama restaurant was added as well – the result is what you can see today.

Also the inn has been expanded with ”Hotel Syd” on the other side of the street.

People come from near and far to enjoy the hospitality of the inn.
