The Food Experience
The kitchen in ”Færgekoren” is based on fresh raw materials, changing according to the time of year. Local dishes with fresh caught fish from our beautiful Mariager inlet is served the whole year around. Breaded pieces of eel with creamed potatoes, salt and parsley are served from April till November.
Eel can also be prepared in other ways – if you should wish eel breaded in rye flour, served with Danish potato salad, chives and whole grain bread, this is certainly also possible.
Flounders from the inlet, fried or boiled, are served with a filling of shellfish or vegetables or are served as an important part of our ”Shooting Star” on toasted bread, with a homemade dressing and really delicious accompaniments. Also fried plaice with a parsley gravy and new potatoes are very delicate as a meal!
Generally ”Færgekroen” makes solid, traditional, Danish food with gravy and potatoes; if you should have some special wishes that are more French or more exotic, we will certainly also be able to give you a wonderful experience.
All year through we offer you a menu, based on the fish, meat, game, vegetables or fruit of the season. It is always possible to get a menu of 2 or 3 dishes for a reasonable amount of money.
Our kitchen chef is always ready to offer you specialities of the season, that will give you a special gastronomical experience.
The inn is also known for offering a big buffet of cakes and other sweet delicacies, which are all home-made. There are always at least 10 different kinds of cakes and some smaller kinds of pastry on the table. You can eat all you want from this table, which is prepared every Sunday in autumn and winter between 2.30 pm and 5 pm.
