The Miniature Bull Terrier has just as much energy and "here i am attitude" as his big brother, so don’t think he won’t be as much work, he will provide plenty of work for you.The Miniature Bull Terrier breed standard does not specify a weight, but it should be proportionate to the dog’s height. Overweight Bullterriers, both standard and Miniature seem to be the trend among some people, generally showpeople. In my opinion its just not healthy for any dog to be overweight, keep him slim and fit, that way you will have him in your life longer. "Normal" standard size Miniature Bullterrier weighs around 10-14 kg for females and 14-18 kg for males. The size should be no taller than 35,5 cm.
The Miniature Bull Terrier is a curious and energetic dog who is as bull-headed as his name might suggest. He is an independent thinker with an endless desire to be digging, barking and investigating. Life with a Miniature Bull Terrier is never boring. He is fearless, clownish, playful and very busy. This is a dog who is always seeking out something interesting to do. If that behavior would drive you crazy, the Miniature Bull Terrier is not for you. But if you have lots of energy and curiosity, not to mention a great sense of humor, keep on reading, maybe you have found the breed just for you!
If you want a dog you can do things with, the Mini Bull Terrier is for you. He loves all kinds of organized activities. He loves to hike and can be an excellent agility and obedience dog, if you can figure out how to motivate him, and by motivating, i mean convincing him that there may be a reward for him at the end of this...
A Miniature Bull Terrier needs firm and fair training from a young age so he will understand whats nescassary for living with people. As long as he gets plenty of exercise and stimulation for his quick mind, he's perfectly capable of understanding that outside is for digging, in a specified area. And the living room sofa is for watching TV with you after the two of you have worn each other out, so start training your puppy the day you bring him home.
Even at 8 weeks old, he is capable of soaking up everything you can teach him. Never wait until he is six months old to begin training, or you will have a more headstrong dog to deal with. If possible, get him to puppy kindergarten class by the time he is 10 to 12 weeks old, so you can start building a strong working relationship, and socialize, socialize, socialize. However, be aware that many puppy training classes require certain vaccines (like kennel cough) to be up to date, and many veterinarians recommend limited exposure to other dogs and public places until puppy vaccines (including rabies, distemper and parvovirus) have been completed. You can begin training your puppy at home and socializing him among family and friends until puppy vaccines are completed. Invite people to your home as well so he becomes accustomed to visitors.
Miniature Bull Terriers are active and cheerful playmates for kids, although they are too bombastic for toddlers. They can get along with other dogs their size or bigger if you socialize him early, if he is weill socialzed he will enjoy being with other dogs, as he loves to play and have fun!
The Miniature Bull Terrier love playing with squeaky toys or entertaining you by performing tricks. After wearing himself out with all this activity, he’ll curl up by you on the sofa while you watch TV.
- However, that isn't to say he wants to lie adoringly at your feet 24 hours a day. He would much rather you got up and came outside with him, and went on a short stroll of, say, 10 miles.
Last but not least, it should go without saying that a people-loving dog like the Miniature Bull Terrier needs to live in the house. It’s an unhappy Miniature Bull Terrier who is relegated to the backyard with little or no human companionship - so in other, not so friendly words: NOT A DOG FOR PERMANENT OUTSIDE KENNELS!
