This time my blog will be in English because on this special day I want my dad and the rest of family here in Ireland to be able to understand it.
My written English is far from perfect but I guess in time it’ll improve - So spare with me if you see lots and lots of spelling mistakes.
Today was my first day as a student at Trinity College Dublin and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! You know the feeling you have as a kid the day before Christmas? The butterflies! The excitement! The nerves! Now double it and you’ll have a fair idea of how I felt this morning.. I’ve been looking forward to this day for quite some time now (actually for a year and a half to be exact) and luckily the first day lived up to all my expectations :)
My first lecture was geography and to be honest I was terrified – Like I always do, I thought of all the things that could go wrong: What if I wouldn’t understand the lecturer? Or what if I didn’t know enough about the topic? Or what if I failed my first exam? – But after about 10 minutes I realized that first of all it’s not possible to fail an exam until you have one (which I don’t until April) and second of all I’m there to learn so what would the point be in going to all the lectures if I already knew everything!!
So for the 45 minutes that was left of the lecture I concentrated on listening and writing lots and lots of notes (just to minimize the risk of failing my exams in April – after all April is not that far away, and it’s better to be prepared!!).
Surviving the first lecture I had to (literally) run to my second one (which – in case you haven’t guessed it already, I also managed to survive), because my second lecture was biology a subject I study together with 460 other students and let me tell you: That many students in one room can cause quite a lot of hassle.. But by the end of the biology lecture my nerves finally seemed to get control of themselves which was GREAT. The cocktail of tiredness, confusion and nervousness wasn’t that nice, so with nervousness out of the picture I was ready to head for the last few stops of the day: A super lunch at Farmor’s, a second geography lecture and my first mathematics methods lecture, before finally heading back home to Halls to share all the new experiences with my awesome flat mates.
I can’t believe that the first day has come and gone already. A few months ago I almost gave up the dream of Trinity and Environmental Science (more than once actually), but today I’m absolutely thrilled that I didn’t!!! Had I given up I would probably also be somewhere amazing right now, but I’m happy I didn’t. Today was the first step on my way to my dream career and knowing that the first step usually is the hardest I’m confident that everything will work out just fine :)
Now I’m ready to conquer the world (maybe I’ll aim at just passing my junior freshman exams, but after that I’m definitely going for the whole world and nothing less)
Bye for now,
Susannah
