Local artists in own ateliers

As a novelty we have decided that next year the local artists who do not wish to participate in the censuring will have the opportunity to participate without cen-suring. They themselves are responsible for finding a place to exhibit and they will pay the same amount as the censured artists, this in order to cover the marketing expenses.

MiniPicasso
This event was a huge success at this year’s Festival. So huge that it definitely will be repeated next year, only we will make sure that all get the opportunity to paint on real canvas and not on paper plates! Fjord and Bælt have announced that they will participate with the same agreement as this year.

MaxiPicasso
Many of the children’s parents were very dissatisfied with the grown- ups not having the opportunity of trying out their artistic talents. So next year we will have a tent for those parents who would like and dare to try out their skills. The artists Grethe Trandberg and Jeff Ibbo, have promised to help the performing parents.

Nadia Plesner

The disappearing borderlines between the editorial and the commercial departments in the media are the key issues in Plesner’s works. For example, in the drawing Simple Living, where she por-
trays a Darfur child  in possession of  a small dog and a caricature of a designer handbag as a comment to the prioritisa-
tion of the media between the genocide in Dafur and celebrity “news” on the front page.

Plesner had the drawing printed on T-shirts and posters and started selling them on her home page in October 2007, where all the profit went to the organi-
zation “Divest for Darfur”.

More headliners this year

After the great success in 2011 we wish to make the Festival even better, bigger, wider, more spectacular and last, but not least, much more cutting edge art. We have done our utmost to find the right artists who are able to fulfil this requirement.

This year’s festival will be divided into three parts – Invited artists – Censured artists – Local artists, though, they will be tied together as a unit under International Art Festival 2012.

Sculpture’12

Again this year selected artist from The Danish Sculpture Society will participate with big and small sculptures. As in 2011, the artists’ great works will fill the street scene to the delight of the permanent residents and the tourists.

Both locals and visitors can benefit a lot by investing a little time in the many works of art scattered around town.

The works encourages one to explore and surprise us by the many impressions they make. At the same time their location in the townscape makes us relate to them and perhaps we can even be persuaded into a discussion of what good art is.

Kino is back

As in 2011, we signed an agreement with the city's cinema KINO. During the festival, KINO will show narrow art movie for kids and adults. We obviously can’t tell what will be shown at this time, but once we have the titles, they will appear on this page.

Jens Galschiøt

Last year Jens Galschiøt participated with all his fantastic bronze figures, when suddenly the fugitive ship M/S ANTON appeared in Kerteminde harbour. This year he will be one of the headliners at the Festival.

Like Nadia Plesner, Jens Galschiøt is one of the artists who dares where others are silent and the imbalances of the world are brought into focus via his sculptures and happenings. Jens Galschiøt has participated in many exhibitions and made happenings all over the world. Furthermore he is represented in several galleries and art halls at home and abroad.

The artist from Odense and world citizen, Jens Galschiøt, is described as a debate creating, politicizing, provoking, happening, arranger and advocate for essential values.

Known artist in the streets

How would you like to meet, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Johannes Larsen or Michael Anker themselves? That will be possible during the Festival where actors from the town’s amateur theatre KAT will perform small sketches with and about great personalities within art.

Vini Iuel will again entertain at the opening.

It is said that one must take care of repeating a success, but we also think that tradition is a good thing. And now that we do have a world star in Kerteminde, who contributes genuine bossa nova/jazz, we are enthusiastic that Vini Iuel Kjærsgaard has accepted to entertain at next year’s opening of the Festival
