The St. Martin De Porres International
Emergency Response Corps
The St. Martin De Porres International Emergency Response Corps (ERC) is a uniformed organization made up of volunteers who are willing to take and receive Red Cross and any other disaster related courses that will allow them volunteer their services to any Official Private or Government Agency that will need the services of volunteers in times of need. Membership in the Order is not required.
Their service will be as individual citizens and not as an official representative of our organization. This step will allow us to operate without having to purchase Liability insurance coverage for the members. As volunteers for other agencies, we are covered by their insurance. Our uniforms, are not worn when providing this type of help.
Due to their training, they will be in a perfect position to help their family, friends, and neighbors in times of major natural or manmade disasters. Proof of training is required for membership.
This approach would keep our cost almost to zero. The volunteers will pay for any associated cost. In order to be truly independent, we should not accept donations from outside agencies, as that action would require us to become a non for profit organization. What organizations need when responding to emergencies is volunteers. Let us, focus on providing the volunteers.
We will wear our uniforms at our meetings and when conducting our own training. I encourage the members to wear the uniform to Church or social events.
