To ? from Portugal?

I got a message today addressed to David Suchet in my mail box from Portuguese ??? (sorry, but I didn’t catch your name). I happened to delete it after having read it, because I mistakenly thought you had placed it in the
Guestbook (I get copies of that in my mail box as well). It turned out that you had sent it via the message box to the site owner in stead, so now it’s unfortunately gone.

Could you pls send it again but this time through the Guestbook? Because I don’t forward messages to David Suchet, so addressing anything to him has to go via the Guestbook. The best way, however, to ensure that Suchet gets your message at all, is to send a letter to his agent - you’ll find the address (as well as the link to the Guestbook) in the Contact section.

Suchet has been nominated with the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards for his role as media tycoon Robert Maxwell in BBC’s tv drama Maxwell. He is up against Michael Gambon in Joe's Palace, Celebration and Cranford, Philip Glenister in Life on Mars and Cranford and Andrew Garfield in Boy A and Freezing.

Maxwell is also nominated in the category best single drama competing with Boy A, Britz, The Mark of Cain and My Boy Jack.

BPG awards are selected by journalists and critics who specialise in writing and broadcasting about television, radio and the media in general and feature writers from the major national newspapers, broadcasters and leading trade journals. Winners will be announced 4th April at Theatre Royal in London.

Congratulations and Good Luck to Suchet and Maxwell!

According to DigitalSpy Suchet denies he is quitting Poirot...

Thursday, February 21 2008, 15:47 GMT

By Beth Hilton, Entertainment Reporter

"David Suchet has denied reports that his next outing as Hercule Poirot will be his last.

It had been claimed that the 61-year-old will play Agatha Christie's Belgian detective for the final time in forthcoming episode Appointment With Death.

However, he told the Daily Telegraph that there was no truth in the rumours, saying: "Fans needn't worry. I want to finish the remaining eight stories before I hang up my spats as Poirot."

Suchet has starred in more than 60 feature-length shows in the ITV franchise since 1989"

Well, what a speedy reaction. The rumours have really upset some fans, no wonder, so it's very nice we get some facts quickly. Now, Contact Music, don't ever do that again, d'you hear?

Rumours...

Fans of David Suchet and Poirot are of course more or less concerned about yesterday’s rumours on Suchet retiring, but I’m sure we have nothing to fear. As far as I know the original - and only - information came from Contact Music and now every other more or less official news site and private blog are just quoting Contact Music totally unfiltered.

A great Poirot and Suchet fan from Italy has contacted Contact Music, hopefully they will come up with an answer, but to speed it up a bit, I contacted them, too. I haven’t heard anything from them, yet, but I expect them either to remove the information or at least to get it right, because I’m convinced their story is a misunderstanding. I could be wrong, but I think it’s clearly a mix up between the informations we’ve got from the articles on Metro and Daily Express saying that Suchet will hang up his spats when the last Poirot episode are made, and a reporter who thinks Appointment with Death is the last episode in the canon.

Suchet wants to do the canon, if at all possible, and it would be a totally contradiction to what he has expressed for months, if he were to hang up his spats now. Unless Chorion and their partners have decided to end the series, I’m convinced that Suchet would never retire at a time like this, with - as far as I know - negotiations still going on whether the rest of the Poirot canon should be filmed in the near future.

So let’s just lean back and relax, mes amis/amies, I’m sure we will still see Suchet in the role of Poirot, even after Appointment with Death which is said to be filmed this summer.

Is Suchet going to retire as Poirot?

Or did the reporter just listened with one ear, got half a story and mixed it with the articles on Metro or Daily Express... ?

I have my doubts on the story, so hold your horses a bit before going banana, but according to Contact Music Suchet is to retire as Poirot after filming Appointment with Death...

"British actor DAVID SUCHET will quit as his infamous character HERCULE POIROT when filming on the forthcoming APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH wraps. The 61-year-old has portrayed Agatha Christie's fictional Belgian detective in numerous TV films since the early 1980s, but reveals he is already planning his retirement from the murder mystery franchise. He says, "After filming in Appointment With Death in Jordan, I'm going to end it there. "I'm told it's quite warm in Jordan, so I'll be very hot in all my padding. But I've decided that I will hang up my spats (late 19th century shoe accessory) when I finish that story."

Poirot on the Belgian coins?

The Belgians are extremely fond of Poirot, so fond that they planned on putting his portrait on one of their national coins... What a great idea! Unfortunately switching to the Euro spoiled that... Well... Great Britain still has her own pounds and pennies... so does Denmark - well, crowns and ears we call the money in my country... - so how about somebody had a little chat with the Royal Danish Mint people... or the British...

"The great David Suchet, best known for playing Poirot, missed immortality by a whisker. At the launch of The Bank Job, in which he plays a pornographer, Suchet told us that, at one point, the Belgians were keen to put him, as Poirot, on a coin. “Representatives of the Belgian mint got in touch with my agent,” he said, “but then the currency switched to the euro. All my hopes were dashed”

Stars from The Bank Job walked the red carpet at the film's premiere yesterday at the Odeon in London...

"Legendary DAVID SUCHET - best known for playing Belgian detective Poirot - didn't seem too worried about shocking fans with his role as the porn king of 70s Soho.

He said: “I play a very, very dangerous man indeed. Playing the baddie is always more fun!”

No photos of Suchet, sorry...

Updated 20th February
Oh, well, now we get some pictures it seems. Suchet and wife at the premiere

"Suchet, who plays a porn baron in the film, said he preferred playing villains, but said his role as the Belgian detective had been pivotal in his career.

He said: "It's a cliché because every actor you ever speak to will say the baddie's the best role. Mind you I should qualify that and say that Poirot for me was the gift of a lifetime."

Latest photos of Suchet...

I've decided to remove the photos I put up from Contact Music earlier today, since they were clearly copyrighted, so you'll just get the links instead.

This we've already seen on Wire Image, but this time we get a 'closer look'... Suchet with his lovely daughter Katherine at the annual Variety Club Awards in London, 18 November 2007.

From the same event - a close up of David Suchet

Suchet in front (with a beard)... - at the back, to the left, I don't know, it might be his son, Robert. To the right, Suchet's wife, Sheila. Photo taken at Claridge's (a hotel with restaurants and meeting facilities, I believe) in London, 22. January 2008. I wonder which role the beard is for... or maybe Suchet merely decided to change his style in the new year...
